A takeaway in Rishton has reopened under new management and it has been named after a footballer with a slightly infamous past.

Suarez’s Tasty Bites has taken over the former Big Bite site, in High Street.

The new owner, Azimulla Dalvi, said it was been named after one of his favourite footballers Luis Suarez.

The footballer made headlines in the past for biting fellow players on the pitch on three occasions, receiving match bans for the incidents.

At the 2014 World Cup, Suarez bit Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini. He was sent home after being banned for nine international matches and from all football for four months for the bite.

Suarez hit the headlines after appearing to sink his teeth into the arm of Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic, in 2013. This earned him a 10-game ban.

He also sat out seven matches in 2010 for biting midfielder Otman Bakkal during his time at Ajax.

Suarez’s Tasty Bites, which opened on June 17, will serve pizza, curry, burgers, kebabs and beyond.

Azimulla said: “I have always worked in catering and takeaways. I like cooking and I am really good at it too.

“I want to carry on the takeaway’s good reputation.

“Customers like the takeaway’s name and the food. Since opening customers have told me how much they like the food.

“I look after my customers and I am happy to serve food to the public. I can’t wait to feed the people of Rishton.”

Azimulla takes over from previous owners Ali and Suly, who had been in charge since 1982.

In a statement on Facebook they said: “Ali and Suly have officially sold Big Bite Rishton to a wonderful gentleman named Azim, who has rebranded the takeaway to Suarez’s Tasty Bites.

“Ali has finally retired and hung up his apron, while Suly has ventured into a new business in Accrington called SAM Autos , specialising in vehicle repairs and MOT.

“The handover was emotional, but we are confident that the business is in excellent hands.

“Expect delicious food prepared by Azimulla and team, who have more than 25 years of experience in this food trade.

“Thank you so much to all our loyal customers for your support over the years.”
