Talking loudly, eating, pushing in: Survey reveals top commuting bugbears

Having to stand up, people who talk loudly on the phone and those who put their bags on seats are some of the most annoying bugbears for commuters, according to a new survey.

Other annoying traits include public transport simply not showing up, aggressive people and fellow commuters with a lack of personal hygiene.

The poll, commissioned by Studiocanal ahead of the release of Liam Neeson action-thriller The Commuter, found that 70% of people admitted they dislike their commute at some point or another, with six in ten saying it is the worst part of their working day.

According to the survey, which polled 2,000 people, 57% would prefer to work from home if it saved them a commute, with just over a quarter prepared to accept a pay cut of £2,450 annually for the privilege.

The extensive list includes all sorts of annoyances, right down to people who argue about the price of tickets and people who leave their newspapers on the seat so you think it’s taken or they are coming back, meaning no-one sits there, as well as ticket inspectors being too jolly or smug.
