Tamworth luxury estate death investigation update

Police investigating after a man's body was found on a luxury housing estate near Tamworth have now deemed his death non suspicious following "extensive forensic work across multiple locations". Henry Coupe, aged 50, was found dead near his home in Clifton Campville at around 5am on Tuesday, June 4.

Officers originally described it as unexplained, saying: "We have launched an investigation following the death of a man near Tamworth. We were called just after 5am on Tuesday (June 4) to a report of a body found in Clifton Park, Clifton Campville.

“West Midlands Ambulance Service also attended the scene. Sadly, the man was pronounced dead just before 5.30am. An investigation to establish the cause of the death is under way.

“You can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.” But in an update provided today, Friday, June 21, Staffordshire Police said: "We can now confirm that an unexplained death of a man in a village near Tamworth has been deemed non-suspicious following an investigation.

"Henry Coupe, aged 50, was sadly found dead near his home in Clifton Campville at around 5am on Tuesday, 4 June. A team of specialist officers have been supporting his family throughout this difficult time and carrying out a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading up to the death.

"We’ve carried out extensive forensic work across multiple locations, spoken to people who saw him at the time and carried out a complete investigation into the events on 4 June. Officers found no evidence of third-party involvement and are preparing a file for HM Coroner.

"His family have been fully supportive of the investigation and have been updated on the outcome. We know this news came as a concern to lots of members of the local community and we’d like to reassure them that the death is not suspicious. Our thoughts remain with Henry’s family and friends at this time."

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the scene shortly before 5am. A spokeswoman for the service said: “We were called at 4.56am to an incident on Netherseal Road, Clifton Campville. One ambulance and an East Midlands Ambulance Service crew attended the scene. Upon arrival we found a man. Unfortunately, nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed deceased at the scene.”
