A slew of Taskmaster stars have been confirmed as guest co-hosts for the upcoming series of Pointless.

As per the BBC, no less than seven stars – Mel Giedroyc, Liza Tarbuck, Chris Ramsey, Josh Widdicombe, Phil Wang, Hugh Dennis, Desiree Burch – from the Channel 4 show will be joining Alexander Armstrong for the quiz show.

“Alongside the Roosevelt desk, The News at 10 desk and that of David Brent, the Pointless desk is iconic, and I feel beyond privileged to get to take a seat behind it as co-host for the new series of Pointless,” said Giedroyc.

Widdicombe, who was the inaugural champion of Taskmaster, said of the opportunity: “I am thrilled to be given the chance to pretend to be Richard Osman for a couple of weeks, and to any publishers watching, yes, I will write you a murder mystery.”

Fellow champion Tarbuck, who was crowned the winner of sixth series, said: “I love a quiz and I think Pointless is a brilliant concept… we have quiz hour at Tarby Towers, sit down with a cup of tea to play along, so I wanted to amuse Mum and Dad and be on it.”

Wang, who is no stranger to Pointless following appearances on the celebrity version of the show, said: “Having won two trophies myself on the famously much harder celebrity version, I’m thrilled to have an opportunity to dominate from behind the desk as well. I literally have ALL the answers.”

Armstrong, who has hosted Pointless since its inception, said in a statement: “I can't wait to get my teeth into a new run with all these brilliant people. I'm so enjoying glancing over to the desk to find so many fabulous faces looking back and furnishing me, and our lovely viewers, with facts.”

In addition to the various Taskmaster stars, other guest hosts for the series include Gok Wan, Gabby Logan, Anita Rani, Ellie Taylor and Rob Rinder.

Taskmaster airs and streams on Thursday nights at 9pm on Channel 4, where you can also stream previous series. Pointless airs on weekdays on BBC One.
