Taskmaster star Mae Martin is set to host a new documentary that will explore the science of gender and sexual fluidity.

In a joint Instagram post shared by Martin and the documentary's director, Michelle Mama, it was announced that Fluid: Life Beyond the Binary will premiere on Canadian network CBC on March 28.

"It’s a fantastic and surprising look at what nature has to say about gender and will be a great tool for kids, teachers and folks to open discussions about the complex science of gender," Mama wrote in the caption.

Martin also shared the film's trailer in a separate Instagram post, which they captioned: "I hope it’s a helpful resource for anyone trying to help their loved ones to understand them.

"Or for anyone fighting the good fight trying to dampen this absurd rising hysteria around trans identities. Nature is full of beautiful diversity and variance. And this doc is chock full of joyful and well researched info. "

In the trailer, Martin says: "I know some people think that every species is divided into male and female. But is that really true? I want to know what science has to say about gender and sexual fluidity."

The footage also shows a scientist explaining how clownfish change sex, while another reveals that "the differences between male and human brains are so subtle".

"I think it’s easy for them to drum up this hysteria because there is still a sense from a lot of people that transness is in some way unnatural," Martin says in the documentary. "But maybe that’s because a lot of people DON’T really know nature!"

The comedian and Feel Good creator came out as non-binary in 2021, sharing in an Instagram post: "The way I feel about my gender identity is ongoing and evolving, and it's personal, but I thought it might be good to say for clarity and in case anyone finds it helpful – I'm non-binary, my pronouns are they/them and she/her (I love it when people say 'they' and I really don't mind 'she' at ALL, truly)."
