Cabbie Charges £33 For Four-Mile Trip Then Locks Passengers Inside Car

A taxi driver is being investigated after he tried to charge a woman £33 for a four mile journey.

Caroline Coyle, 45, was outraged when the cabbie charged her three times the price of a regular taxi fare after a night out in Nottingham.

When she refused to pay the fare, which should have been just £11, the driver stepped out of the taxi and locked the women inside while he called the police.

The mum-of-five filmed the dispute on her phone and posted it online, which has been viewed over 150,000 times.

Nottingham Police confirmed officers were aware of the incident, which happened after the taxi took Caroline from Nottingham city centre to her home in Arnold but said it was classed as a civil dipute.

A spokesperson for the Gedling Borough Council said: ‘We take complaints of this nature very seriously and we're currently investigating the matter.’
