Being taxied around by our parents is a fact of life that many of us have endured. Whether they're filling the gaps before we have the ability to drive ourselves, or coming to our rescue after a night of drinking, these parental chariots are an important resource.

Taking this idea into the world of television is Channel 4's new programme Taxi of Mum and Dad, which grants us the role of fly on the dashboard of the family car – think Peter Kay's Car Share mixed with Gogglebox and you're on the right sort of track.

The show lets us see into one of the few places these days that conversation still has a chance of happening, what with homes being filled with endless electronic distractions.

Have a peek at a preview of the show, in which we see Ben being ferried by his mum to a job interview – as she quizzes him on whether he's ready for what's to come.

Quite the bleep-fest! But we've probably all been in similar situations before, eh?

In all, eight different families have had their cars rigged up for Taxi of Mum and Dad, so there will be all kinds of conversations between teens and parents for us viewers to eavesdrop on.

Taxi of Mum and Dad arrives at Channel 4 on August 17 at 9pm.
