Tea urgently recalled after batches found to contain insects

People have been urged to stop using batches of three varieties of tea immediately after some were found to contain insects. TK Maxx and Homesense have warned anyone who has bought the tea to stop using it immediately.

Issuing a recall notice the Food Standards Agency said: "TK Maxx and Homesense are recalling selected batches of Kintra Foods Organic Premium Leaf Teas because some of these products have been found to contain insects." It added the presence of the bugs made them "unsafe to consume".

The affected products are:

  • Kintra Foods Organic Premium Leaf Teas – Calm & Relax, pack size, 60g, batch codes 6057, 6071, 6118, 6126 and 6207

  • Kintra Foods Organic Premium Leaf Teas – Chamomile, pack size 40g, batch codes 5887 and 6111

  • Kintra Foods Organic Premium Leaf Teas – Sleepy, pack size 40g, batch codes 6058, 6102 and 6125

It added: "If you have bought any of the above products do not consume them. Instead, return them to any TK Maxx or Home Sense store for a full refund. For further information, please contact TK Maxx/Homesense Customer Services on 01923 473561 or customerservice@tjxeurope.com.

In their recall notice TK Maxx and Homesense said: "We are recalling selected batches of the above products due to a food safety risk. Some products from these batches have been found to contain insects.

"The products were on sale in our stores between April 2024 and June 2024." The notice added: "Please stop using it immediately and return to any TK Maxx or Homesense store for a full refund."
