Ted Lasso star and co-creator Brendan Hunt has answered several big questions from the finale of the show’s third season.

Several fans believed that Beard’s wedding with Jane (Phoebe Walsh) was a dream sequence imagined by Ted, but Hunt stated that this wasn’t the case, confirming that the scenes were real whilst explaining Ted’s absence from the ceremony.

“There are a few reasons. The first is narrative: Ted just got on a plane and left the UK, it would be anticlimactic and deflating if we suddenly see him back there before we even see his plane lands. The other is that that’s just the kind of friendship Ted and Beard have.

“Personally I think Beard called Ted and told him he could sit this one out, and Ted said ‘thanks’, because the ceremony conflicted with a big game for Henry’s soccer team. The history of their relationship is long periods of seeing each other and long periods not. We have entered one of the latter, but the former will come around again at some point. They love each other, they will see each other again,” he added.

The creator also spoke about Ted’s and Michelle’s (Andrea Anders) relationship, which grew as the third season went on, but he revealed the intention was for the final scenes to be “ambiguous.”

“Ted and Michelle’s status is intentionally ambiguous,” he said. “It would seem Jake’s no longer around. Ted and Michelle definitely care about each other, but they’re both very different people now than who they were. Unambiguous: their desire to be good parents for Henry.”

Ted Lasso season 3 streams on Apple TV+, with new episodes every Wednesday.
