The stars of Ted Lasso have given fans an insight into the behind-the-scenes workings of the hit show, including how changeable the scripts can be.

The third and potentially final season of the hit Apple TV+ show is currently airing, following American football coach Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) as he is hired to manage British football team AFC Richmond.

The show became an immediate hit, praised for its performances – particularly from Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, and Brett Goldstein – as well as its writing, humour, and inner themes.

Speaking with Digital Spy at a press junket, stars Jeremy Swift and James Lance – who play Leslie Higgins and Trent Crimm respectively – talked about how the show's scripts can change at the drop of a hat.

"The scripts change, usually on the day that you're shooting," Swift said. "This is the first job ever that, although I've approximated what I'm going to be doing, I don't learn the script, because I know that when I'm in the car on the way to the studio at seven in the morning, I'll get a ping with a new draft.

"And sometimes you'll find that you're speaking other people's lines or you're not in the scene or you have much less or much more to do. So it's very difficult to prepare."

Lance added: "And then that scene that you get in the car on the way to the set, by the time you actually get to set there can be a whole new scene again, rewritten from there. So, it's like live theatre, it's got an improv feel to it because the lines are super fresh most of the time."

The multi-award-winning show is set to take a break after its third season, star and co-creator Brendan Hunt told Digital Spy.

"Well, that remains to be seen," Hunt said when asked whether season three is the end of Ted's story.

"But we definitely saw it as a three-part story and this will be the end of that story. And we treated it as such."

But the future of Ted Lasso is far from over, with Hunt not ruling out the possibility of a spin-off series in the future.

Ted Lasso season 3 streams on Apple TV+, with new episodes every Wednesday.
