Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham has opened up on the prospect of the show ending with season three and shared her hilarious 'plan' to get show-creator Jason Sudeikis to write more instalments.

In an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Waddingham was asked by the American Idol alumni whether the latest season was the "end-end" of the beloved Apple TV+ show.

"Well I don't know. Jason says it's the end of that three season arc," she said, hinting that the future of the show is still undetermined.

"I mean I feel like trapping him in a dungeon with a notepad and a pen and just going: 'Dude, what are you doing?' You can't step away from it. The characters are so beloved and we all love it."

Waddingham has played AFC Richmond club owner Rebecca Welton in the comedy series from season one to present and seems to have fallen in love with the character as much as the fans.

"I would play her when her teeth are falling out, in a retirement home, like sitting outside it with mud splashing her," she said of Rebecca. "I just want to see her through. I love her so much."

The penultimate episode of Ted Lasso season three surprised viewers with a cameo from Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola. The season finale arrives on AppleTV+ this week to much anticipation and sadness from both fans and the Ted Lasso family.

"A few years ago I hopped on a plane with Coach Beard headin' to a little town in London," read a tweet from the official Ted Lasso Twitter account. "Tonight we play our final match. It's like what I say about the films of David Lynch. I can't tell you what's happenin', but I sure as heck don't want it to end."

Lead star and co-creator Jason Sudeikis has teased that season three is "the end" for the Emmy-award winning series, but other cast members have suggested there could be more to come. Though Ted Lasso stars Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent) and Phil Dunster (Jamie Tartt) have said that there could be a future for the show past season three.

Fans are still awaiting official confirmation on the show’s fate following it's third outing.
