Two teenage girls were sexually assaulted at a Scots beauty spot on the first weekend of the summer holidays.

It's understood the girls, aged 14 and 15, were subjected to the ordeal after being approached by a group of youths on a quad bike.

The incident took place at Cramond beach in Edinburgh on Saturday, June 29, Edinburgh Live reports.

The attack, which is understood to have involved two male youths, took place on a bench near to Silverknowes Beach Car Park between 7.30pm and 7.45pm.

Cops have now launched a hunt for those who carried out the sickening attack, which happened one day after the school term finished for the summer holidays.

Police say their enquiries are at an early stage and officers are appealing for information.

Cramond Beach is a popular area for families and dog walkers. It's generally thought to be safe, with low crime rates.

Detective Sergeant Craig Donnelly said: “The Crammond Beach area would have been busy around the time the incident is reported to have taken place and we are appealing for anyone with information which could help our investigation to come forward.

“We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who noticed two male youths in the company of two teenage girls at a bench near to Silverknowes Beach Car Park, or anything else which could be of significance.

“Incidents of this nature can understandably cause concern in the local community, and we will have additional patrols in the area to provide reassurance.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3438 of Saturday, June 29, 2024.”
