Teenage boy dies after collapsing at Forrester High School in Edinburgh

A teenager has died after collapsing at a secondary school in Edinburgh.

Emergency crews were called to Forrester High School in the west of the city on Tuesday afternoon after 15-year-old Andrew MacKinnon suffered a "medical incident".

Police Scotland confirmed the schoolboy passed away, but the death is not being treated as suspicious.

Stephen Rafferty, headteacher at Forrester High School, paid tribute to the teen.

He said: "Our school and local community have been shocked and saddened by Andrew's passing.

"He was such a likeable character, loved by everyone who knew him. He was a great sportsman, an outstanding team player and a loyal friend.

"Our deepest sympathies are with Andrew's family and friends at this difficult time."

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

A police spokesperson said: "On Tuesday, police were made aware a 15-year-old boy had died after collapsing in Broomhouse Road, Edinburgh.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."

Members of the public were later invited to a local church for a period of reflection and to light a candle in tribute to Andrew.

An online post by St David's Broomhouse Parish Church read: "Following the difficult circumstances earlier today, the church will be open tonight, 8pm-9pm, for quiet reflection and the opportunity to light a candle. All are welcome."
