Teens hurt after being hit by car in Tamworth drink-drive probe

A car crashed into four pedestrians outside a nightclub leaving two hurt in Tamworth. Two teens, aged 19, were treated by medics after the collision early last Sunday morning, June 30.

Police, ambulances and a fire engine were all pictured at the scene in Spinning School Lane, near to the Atik nightclub and opposite the Garden Bar Terrace in Tamworth. A 20-year-old man, from Tamworth, was later arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

The girls had been out together and were walking back to get an Uber home when it happened. The Peugeot 207 came to rest against a lamppost.

A mum of one of the casualties, who did not want to be named, told us: "My daughter is hurt; she has nerve damage, bruising and is in a lot of pain. The others were also hurt. There was a head injury and one of them hurt their knee.

"They had been out as a group and were just walking back from the chip shop to get an Uber home. They were walking along the path when the driver switched and lost control of his car, knocking them all flying. He was arrested, the police told us."

Staffordshire Police said: “We arrested a man for drink driving after a car collided with four pedestrians outside a nightclub.

“We were called at 2.55am on Sunday morning (30 June) to reports of a collision involving a car, a number of pedestrians and a lamppost.

“We attended the scene and arrested the driver of a Peugeot 207, a 20-year-old man, from Tamworth, on suspicion of drink driving.

“He was taken to custody for questioning and has been released on conditional bail as we carry out further enquiries.

“Two people were taken to hospital – one with a head injury and one with a leg injury - as a precaution.

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Spinning School Lane in Tamworth at 2.50am on Sunday.

"Two ambulances and two paramedic officers were sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews found a car and two pedestrians had been involved in a collision.

"The pedestrians, two women, were treated for potentially serious injuries. One was taken to Good Hope Hospital for further treatment whilst the second did not wish to go to hospital and was discharged at the scene."
