Teesside Wind Band perform concert for charity

MUSIC from films and shows will feature in a concert by Teesside Wind Band this weekend to raise money for charity.

Following on from its hugely successful concert at St Nicholas Church in Guisborough and sell-out Christmas Concert at St Mary's Church Hall, Nunthorpe, the band is hoping for an equal measure of support as they perform to support the charity, Friends of Murambinda Hospital (FMH).

FMH is a charity that supports the work of the Murambinda Hospital in Zimbabwe. It was founded 25 years ago by a group of doctors who once worked there, one of whom, the treasurer, is now a local GP working in East Cleveland.

All money raised for the hospital goes on beneficial and controlled projects, such as installing solar power, and in supplementing the wages of staff.

The band will be playing a range of film, show and popular music – from Lloyd-Webber's 'Cats', 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' and 'Jesus Christ Superstar', to Glenn Miller, Gershwin and Leonard Bernstein's Mambo (from West Side Story).

Teesside Wind Band, based in Marton, is now in its 24th year, and is made up of local, talented amateur musicians, both young and old. The musical director is Jason Mitchell, head of faculty at Outwood Academy, Ormesby.

Tickets, which cost £8 for adults and £1 for under-16s, are available from WeGotTickets, from band members, by emailing bill.colombi@gmail.com or on the door (subject to availability). There will be a raffle in aid of the charity and refreshments provided by the church in aid of church funds.
