Telfar x Ugg: the cult bags get a furry upgrade

It’s fair to say that Brooklyn-based accessories designer Telfar Clemens has had a pretty good year.

Alongside his CFDA Award win for Accessories Designer of the Year, Clemen’s bags - which have been dubbed ‘Bushwick Birkins’ - have struggled to stay in stock.

Global fashion platform Lyst - which analyses the behaviour of 100 million shoppers in order to track consumer demand - noted that searches for Telfar bags soared by 270 per cent over the last two months.

And now the cult bags, which have been carried by everybody from Bella Hadid to Solange to Chloë Sevigny, are getting a fuzzy shearling upgrade courtesy of a new collaboration with UGG.

Telfar’s Instagram first teased the Ugg collab earlier in September but has finally shared more details on what we can expect from what looks set to be the hottest gift of the holiday season.

On Monday, November 30, at 2pm GMT, shoppers can log onto Telfar’s website to pre-order their furry holdalls, which are available in both small and medium and come in Ugg’s signature caramel chestnut shade. This pre-order window will be open for 24 hours only and there are only a limited number of bags available, so get those alarms set.

According to Telfar’s Instagram post, the bags will be delivered between March and June next year, and while that might feel like a long time, the brand assured its fans on Instagram, saying: “We know that is a long time to wait — but these bags are insanely adorable and will sell out in minutes. PRE-ORDER now and your bag is SECURED."

And that’s not all. The pre-order also includes a Christmas card set to arrive before Christmas Eve which features a seductively poised Clemens posing up a storm.

"I find UGG really sexy—a soft kind of rugged," Clemens said in a statement. "I have made unofficial, unauthorized UGG boots in two shows already dating back to 2010. So, I’ve always been obsessed with a certain kind of ubiquity, and when something really unique ends up on everybody. What I want to do is get down to the DNA of UGG and see what genes we have in common. To get down to the core of that feeling."
