Renowned vegan chef Risham Sachdeva has announced he will launch a permanent restaurant site for his mostly vegan brand, Tendril.

Situated at 5 Princes Street in Mayfair, just off Regent Street, it’s part of The Crown Estate’s London portfolio, where Sachdeva has hosted a successful pop-up restaurant since June 2022.

‌The news follows a successful crowdfund bid via the Seedrs platform in order to secure a long-term central London bricks-and-mortar site for the popular brand.

It will be relaunched as ‘Tendril (mostly) Vegan Kitchen & Bar’ later this summer.

So far, Tendril has received mainly positive reviews from customers, press, and celebrity vegans.

Maisie Williams, Lily Collins, and Romesh Ranganathan have all dined at the pop-up.

Writing on Instagram, the revered ex-Sunday Times restaurant critic Marina O’Loughlin commented: “Seriously impressive (mostly) vegan food — their description — at Tendril. Can’t wait till they get their own place: ‘soon’ we’re told. Rishim does magically delicious things with vegetables: the sticky purple potatoes — gobsmacking!”

The new-look restaurant is designed in collaboration with Haigh & Company and Dapple Studio, offering a 42-cover restaurant, comprising 34 table dining seats and an extra eight for counter dining at the bar, with the option of a 30-cover semi-private dining room to the back, to host dinner parties.

It’s based around the theme of ‘joyous discovery’, with extravagant use of terracotta and teal tones, offset with natural timber, stone, copper, and brass.

Guests can expect a variety of creative new plant-first dishes from Rishim, such as ‘summer squash, white polenta, basil puree & crispy samphire’, ‘smoked peas, pickled wild garlic, mint tabbouleh & rye crumbs’ and a delicious ‘chocolate ganache, sesame butter & pistachio crumb’.

There will also be some long-standing Tendril classics, including ‘ChinaTown’ purple soy potatoes, with black sesame cracker and Rishim’s famous vegan no-dairy tiramisu.

In addition, you’ll be able to sample vegan wine from Europe, and cocktails using ingredients from the Tendril kitchen.

Ahead of the relaunch, Sachdeva said: “It’s no secret we’ve been searching for a permanent home for Tendril for some time now, so it is with huge excitement that we can now announce we will be relaunching the restaurant this summer in its current location at 5 Princes Street, following a month-long refurb.

“We’ve received some fantastic feedback from our wonderful customers who’ve visited us time and again over the last nine months of the pop-up, and we’re especially touched by the immense trust and support of our investors who believed in us and supported us through our crowdfunding bid.

“As well as the support from our reputable landlord Crowne Estate, and working with Dstrkt who helped us secure the deal on the site. As a team, we’ve put our hearts and souls into creating a space that embodies the spirit of Tendril, and we’re immensely thankful to our design partners, Haigh & Company and Dapple Studio, for their amazing work on the redesign, which will be a huge transformation from its current look and feel.

“And special thanks to Ed Francis, who is overseeing the whole relaunch programme for us. Creating our relaunch menu has also been a true labour of love, and we’ve poured all our culinary expertise and passion into crafting dishes that perfectly embody the Tendril ethos of laidback and imaginative (mostly) vegan dining — with some tasty new dishes we can’t wait to share and a handful of Tendril signatures that firmly remain.

“We’re so excited to share this culinary adventure with you and can’t wait for you to join us when we open our permanent home for Tendril later this summer!”
