The mayor of a town in Tenerife, where Jay Slater was potentially sighted on CCTV cameras has expressed his doubts that the missing teen ever arrived there. A blurry CCTV image depicted a figure strolling past a church in Santiago del Tiede - approximately four miles from Jay's last known location - at around 6pm last Monday, June 17.

In an interview with the Independent, Mayor Emilio Navarro said: "He's not here." He further added: "The Guardia Civil sent us an email asking for our security cameras. We could not give it to them as they are organised through a separate company, so the police are speaking to them.

"But that CCTV picture is not from us and I do not recognise that place - I do not think it is in Santiago del Tiede and he is not here. We will help the police but it makes no sense. We have had family and journalists here but we have seen no police."

Jay, who is from Lancashire, vanished while trying to walk back to his accommodation after missing a bus, it is believed. The apprentice bricklayer had attended the NRG music festival on the island with two friends before he went missing and was last heard from last Monday, reports the Manchester Evening News.

As the search for the teenager enters its 11th day, the Civil Guard are concentrating their efforts north of the Masca Gorge. Three separate ravines, including one where it is believed Jay's phone last 'pinged' shortly after he disappeared, are also being searched.

Mountain rescue teams, local police, the Civil Guard and fire crews have been combing the expansive terrain, using sniffer dogs, drones and helicopters in their search efforts. Meanwhile, the Foreign Office is providing assistance to his family. Jay's mum Debbie, dad Warren and brother Zak, along with other family members, have travelled to Tenerife to aid officers in the search. Follow our live updates from the search here.
