Terrifying moment Delta Air Lines plane engine catches fire after abandoned take-off
This is the terrifying moment a plane engine catches fire after a failed take-off.
Pilots on the Delta Air Lines flight from San Francisco to Detroit had to abandon take-off because of an engine problem.
Photojournalist Jeff Holloway, a passenger on the Boeing 767 plane, said it sounded like a tyre had blown on the suspended take-off.
A video taken on board shows massive plumes of smoke coming out of the engine, with one scared passenger asking: “Is that a fire out there?”

Another passenger posted the video on Instagram, saying the crew did “great work” but that a “few folks may need new underwear”.

Delta said the aircraft, which had been carrying 229 passengers, was returned to the terminal with customers transported to an alternative aircraft. It took off as normal on Monday evening.
It said: “The safety of Delta’s customers and crew is always our top priority and Delta maintenance technicians are evaluating the original aircraft.”
Earlier this year, a Delta flight from Atlanta to Heathrow caught fire just 30 minutes after take-off.
Irish Karla Cantre Bumanglag, from Bath, Somerset, said she felt like she was on a rollercoaster as passengers watched the drama unfold through the windows.
