Tesco Took The Scottish Flag Off Its Fruit Because Too Many English People Complained

Scottish Twitter is not happy with Tesco after the supermarket chain removed the St Andrew’s Cross from its fruit.

When one Twitter user Eileen Brown asked the company why the familiar blue and white flag was missing from their Scottish-grown produce, Tesco’s twitter handlers looked into it.

Eileen added that it was “mostly raspberries and strawberries”, and went on to say she hoped that the flag’s removal was not “caused by #brexit”.

The supermarket came back with a surprising answer: the flag has been removed because of complaints from English people.

Over a series of tweets, the supermarket explained that, “Over the past year, we received several customer complaints regarding Scottish flags on strawberries in England.

“English customers criticised us why we do not apply the English flag on English berries and why we do for Scottish berries.

“When the category went through corporate re-design, it was decided to have British packaging only to avoid further criticism.

“Product origin is printed on each punnet ie customers in Scotland will be allocated with Scottish fruit and this is visible.”

At this point, the famously fierce Scottish Twitter went into meltdown, with Scottish nationalists firing back at the Tesco account.

The inherent weirdness of the complaints and Tesco’s willingness to comply baffled some users:
