Romero Flores, a freshman in the Livingston Independent School District, had just exited a district bus on U.S. Route 59 on Thursday afternoon when the deadly collision occurred, per a post made by the Texas Department of Public Safety on X (formerly Twitter).

Officials said the school bus was stopped when the 18-wheeler rear-ended a Toyota traveling behind the bus and veered into Romero Flores’ driveway, where he was exiting the vehicle, ABC affiliate KTRK-TV and CBS affiliate KHOU-TV reported.

He died at the scene of the crash.

Neither Jackson (the semi-truck driver) nor the Toyota driver sustained injuries in the collision, another ABC affiliate, KTRE, reported.

Police said the district vehicle’s flashing red sign was out when the crash occurred, according to both KHOU-TV and the Fort Worth Star Telegram.
