Thandwie Newton has shared a message on social media following reports she has split with her husband of 24 years.

In a post on Instagram Stories, the 49-year-old Emmy-Award winning actress shared a photo of vintage underwear embroidered with the words: “Do we hate our women.”

The piece featured in artist Zoe Buckman’s 2014 Every Curve exhibition which her website states explored contradictory and complementary influences of Feminism and Hip-Hop she recalls from her upbringing.

The words chosen on this particular item are lyrics taken from late rapper Tupac Shakur’s 1993 song Keep Ya Head Up.

It also featured the words: “I wonder why we take from our women. Why we rape our women, do we hate our women?”

The Westworld star gave no comment on her post other than a tag to Ms Buckman’s website.

Last week, the Hollywood star denied reports she had been fired from the movie Magic Mike’s Last Dance after reports claimed she clashed with her co-star Channing Tatum over differing opinions about Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars.

The Brit-born star clarified she had quit due to “personal reasons”.

“Thandiwe Newton has made the difficult decision to step away from the production of Warner Bros Pictures’ Magic Mike’s Last Dance to deal with family matters,” a spokesperson said in a statement to the Guardian.

Newton and filmmaker Ol Parker have been married for more than two decades after tying the knot in 1998.

They share children Ripley, 21, Nico, 17, and Booker, eight.

It has since been claimed the star has separated from her husband.

A source on set told PageSix: “Thandiwe had been acting strange on set. It became clear she couldn’t play the role. There is a lot going on in her personal life, she and her husband have separated.

“She seemed so stressed, she even brought her two pet rabbits to her hotel for emotional support.”

The Standard has approached Thandwie Newton’s representatives for further comment.

The actress - whose full name is Melanie Thandiwe Newton - previously went by the name Thandie Newton.

Deciding to switch to Thandiwe last year, she said her name was misspelled in the credits to her first film Flirting in 1991 which co-starred Nicole Kidman and Noah Taylor.

As a result, Thandie Newton became the widely-used spelling of her name and stuck with the actress for almost three decades.
