When will The Bear season 3 be released?

We hope you’re hungry because The Bear will return to serve up a third – and a fourth – series, with both outings of this critically praised series starring Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri filming back-to-back.

Originally debuting on Disney+ in 2022, this highly stressful show brought us to busy Chicago where a professionally trained chef is forced to fix his failing family sandwich shop all while trying to come to terms with the sudden death of his older brother.

Packed with the same manic pace that made fellow restaurant release Boiling Point bad news for your fingernails, The Bear grabbed viewers and didn’t let up, ultimately returning for a second season in 2023 where the stakes – and tension – were both much higher.

With The Bear season 3 next up on the menu, here’s everything you need to know about the show’s return before it’s plated up and dished out.

When will The Bear season 3 be released?

The Bear season 3 will arrive this June. Production was delayed due to the Hollywood strikes. However, with that out of the way, series creator Chris Storer was able to complete his scripts – and new episodes of the show began shooting in Chicago in February.

The first two seasons of The Bear landed on Disney+ in the UK, and it’s likely that the streamer will remain the show’s home for the third instalment.

What will happen in The Bear season 3?

So far, all we know about The Bear season 3 is the fact that it’s happening, with any story details or plot nuggets remaining firmly in the minds of its writing team. That said, season two certainly left us with plenty of questions about what might happen next.

Season one saw Carmy forced to return to his Chicago hometown where he inherits his family’s rundown beef sandwich shop following his brother Mikey’s untimely death. He quickly makes it his goal to transform the fast-food venue into one of the city’s most famous eateries and eventually manages this feat but not without enduring a fair few tension headaches along the way.

When we meet Carmy again in season two, he’s on the cusp of opening up his own high-end gourmet restaurant known as The Bear but his constant battles with his family – and himself – haven’t subsided.

Despite featuring even more stressful moments, The Bear’s second series also looked at themes of purpose and place, most notably through Carmy’s cousin Richie. It also asked whether greatness can afford to enjoy the luxuries of regular life, with Carmy forcing himself to choose between owning a gold standard restaurant and being in a happy relationship.

Each of these concepts came to a head during season two’s climactic final moments which found Carmy locked out and without any easy answers. It’s likely that series creator Storer will continue to explore these ideas in season three, maybe even finding time to cut Carmy some slack.

In the meantime though, Carmy's locked in a fridge inside his new restaurant. Speaking to Deadline, White said he "hopes" he manages to get out soon.

Recent news of a fourth series filming back-to-back with part three has raised speculation that this could mark the end of the show but this has yet to be confirmed.

The decision could simply be the result of cast scheduling; White and Edebiri are both in high demand following turns in The Iron Fist and Bottoms respectfully and their co-star Ebon Moss-Bachrach will soon be saving the day as The Thing in Marvel’s new Fantastic Four.

Who is in The Bear season 3 cast?

A confirmed cast list for The Bear season 3 hasn’t been officially released yet but there are some characters that feel all but confirmed.

Of course, The Bear wouldn’t be The Bear without Carmy, played by White, and following the transformative events of season two, audiences will no doubt be clamouring to see where his newly-reformed cousin Richie, played by Moss-Bachrach, goes next.

The Bear’s top chef Sydney, played by Edebiri, is also likely to return, with season two setting up an emotional moment to come for pastry chef Marcus, played by Lionel Boyce. It's also rumoured that Edebiri will direct an episode in the third series.

Other key players in Carmy’s kitchen are also likely to return, including Liza Colón-Zayas's tough line cook Tina, Abby Elliott as Carmy's sister Natalie and Matty Matheson as handyman and family friend Neil.

It’s also worth remembering that season two snuck in a huge number of guest appearances from the likes of Olivia Colman, Bob Odenkirk, John Mulaney, Jamie Lee Curtis, Sarah Paulson and more. With this in mind, it’d be silly to rule out more big names popping up unexpectedly in The Bear season 3.

In fact, White has already said himself that he hopes “we can get as many [guest stars] to come back for one day,” in order to recreate the star-packed energy of season two episode 'Fishes' which contained several big name actors.

In April 2024, a fan captured Midsommar star Will Poulter returning as his season 3 character Luca, a master dessert chef who trained Marcus in season 2.
