The Full Monty is back! 25 years after the low-budget British film took the world by storm, Disney has launched a sequel TV series.

All of the original cast are in the eight-part show, which is streaming on Disney+ from today (Wednesday, 14 June).

Here is everything you need to know about the new series.

What happens in The Full Monty?

The Full Monty is a direct sequel to the film of the same name and takes 25 years after the events of the Oscar-winning movie.

A comedy-drama in the same vein as the original, the show will follow the original band of brothers long after they stopped getting in the buff.

Filmed on location in Sheffield, the now middle-aged men are still navigating life in a post-industrial city and the challenges of unemployment and issues such as healthcare and education.

Writer and creator Simon Beaufoy said: “It has been one of the great joys of my writing career to reunite this eccentric, irrepressible family of Sheffield men and women and see how 25 years, 7 prime ministers, and 100 broken political promises have affected their lives.”

Is there a trailer for The Full Monty?

Disney+ shared the first trailer for The Full Monty on Thursday, 11 May, and it gave fans a glimpse of what is to come in the sequel series.

In the preview, fans get to see where Gaz and the lads are now and the different struggles that they are dealing with two decades after we last saw them.

Who is in The Full Monty cast?

The good news is all of the favourites from the film are back, including Robert Carlyle as Gaz, who led the lads on their stripping expedition so he could see his son.

Mark Addy is back as Dave, Tom Wilkinson will once again play Gerald, Paul Barber is Horse, Steve Huison returns as Lomper, Lesley Sharp plays Jean, Will Snape stars as Nathan and Hugo Speer reprises his role as Guy.

New additions to the cast include Miles Jupp as a housing officer, Talitha Wing as Gaz’s teenage daughter, Paul Clayton as Lomper’s husband and Brotherhood actor Arnold Oceng will play a graffiti artist.

What is Hugo Speer’s involvement?

While confirmed to star in the show via a press release from Disney, many doubts remain over to what extent Hugo Speer will appear in The Full Monty.

The actor was sacked from the show last year over claims of inappropriate conduct on the set of the production.

At the time, Disney said: “Recently, we were made aware of allegations of inappropriate conduct by Hugo Speer on the set of a commissioned production. As is policy, an investigation was launched. Upon its completion, the decision was made to terminate his contract, with immediate effect.”

It was reported that a runner knocked on Speer's door and he answered naked and beckoned for her to come in. Through his publicist, Speer refuted the claims of misconduct and said: “Hugo denies all the allegations and is challenging all of them.”

Speer spoke to The Daily Mail about his contract being terminated and refuted the earlier reports, saying that he had been changing in his trailer when a runner for the show knocked on the door and came in without warning. He said he hid behind a wardrobe for the duration of the 30-second conversation.

The actor added that he later learned from a report by Disney that a costume trainee had seen him naked when he’d walked past his trailer door. Speer explained that he had kept the door open because it was hot and didn’t realise that anyone was near enough to see him.

Speer told the publication: “I’d no idea anyone was in the vicinity or could see into my trailer. If I made anyone feel uncomfortable I am extremely sorry.”

Reflecting on how losing the job has impacted his mental health, Speer said he felt suicidal in the wake of the contract termination, and added: “I went into massive, deep shock. As you can see, I’m still kind of there. They’ve taken my job. They’ve taken my reputation. They’ve taken my money. They’ve taken my mental health.”

Speer is mentioned in the cast list but is not seen in any of the pictures released so far by Disney.

The Full Monty is streaming on Disney+
