The One Show viewers say Nick Knowles is 'unrecognisable'

Nick Knowles stunned fans with his transformation when he appeared on The One Show, with some saying he was "unrecognisable".

The DIY SOS star was one of the celebrity guests on the BBC show on Monday (26 February). But many viewers were distracted by his new facial hair.

Even host Alex Jones was so curious that she had to take a detour from talking about his show to quiz Knowles on his new look.

What, how, and why?

The star was actually on The One Show to talk about his new travel series The Mighty Mississippi, which sees him travelling along the Mississippi river in the US.

But as he shared some of the highlights from his trip, viewers flocked to social media to comment on the fact that he had much longer hair and a much bushier beard than usual.

"Wow I don’t recognise him," admitted one fan on X. "Nick Knowles is totally unrecognisable," agreed another.

Someone else posted: "If I hadn’t heard his voice I’m not sure I’d have recognised that man as Nick Knowles." "What’s happened to Nick Knowles?" asked another surprised viewer.

One joked that the presenter was "going for the WWE look", as another quipped: "When did Nick Knowles turn into Brian Blessed?"

"Nick Knowles looks like the bloke from Doom on the PS1," said one viewer. "Just been saved after 30 years of fighting."

What did Nick Knowles say about his makeover?

Host Alex Jones asked Knowles about his transformation, teasing that his makeover was the "elephant in the room". "It sounds like a brilliant brilliant adventure for you, and a brilliant watch for us," she said of his show. "But is that where the beard has come from? Because there is an elephant in the room here and nobody is talking about it!"

Laughing, Knowles replied: “There is two things with it.

"One is that I am actually not doing any filming for a while, I’m doing some writing and things, and so I had the chance to grow a beard… the other thing is a friend asked me to do some acting. Years ago, I’ve been in TV for 40 years now, when I started out, I started doing a bit of acting. I’ve been asked in between. Now I’ve got a bit of space I’ve said yes to play a part.”
