The ‘Village Of Immortals’ Where 50,000 People Hope To Come Back From The Dead

The ‘Timeship’ - a building where thousands of people hope to cheat death and become immortal, has begun construction in Texas.

New Scientist reports that the site hopes to become a ‘Mecca for cryogenics’ - with up to 50,000 people frozen there, in the hope they can be revived in future.

Cryogenics companies usually charge more than £100,000 to freeze bodies at the moment of death - and keep them ‘on ice’.

Companies such as Alcor already keep bodies ‘on ice’ until medical technology advances - and have preserved 120 bodies so far.

At the ‘Timeship’, people will also preserve DNA and tissue samples, as well as whole bodies - in the hope that future technologies will be able to revive people from those.

‘We see the Timeship as the ‘Fort Knox’ of biological materials,’ the site explains.

‘DNA, tissue samples, and cryopreserved patients will be housed in Timeship, and their safety and security against all threats, both natural and human-made, will have to be maintained for hundreds of years.

‘Timeship has been designed to provide that security at every level, from defense against terrorist attack, to sea level changes due to global warming, to interruption of energy supplies due to any catastrophe.’
