Thea White, best known for voicing Muriel Bagge on Courage the Cowardly Dog, has died aged 81.

White’s brother, John Zitzner, announced the news of her death on his Facebook page, writing that the actor had died on 30 July, two days after undergoing surgery related to liver cancer.

Zitzner’s post detailed White’s acting career, which she began in her twenties.

As well as acting professionally on stage, White also held jobs as a librarian and was the personal assistant to Marlene Dietrich for a time, according to her brother.

White was married to Scottish musician Andy White, who had played the drums on several Beatles songs, including “Love Me Do” and “PS I Love You”. He died of a stroke aged 85 in 2015.

White is best known as the voice of Muriel on the popular Cartoon Network animated series, Courage the Cowardly Dog.

Muriel is the kindhearted, Scottish elderly woman who adopts Courage.

White voiced the character in every episode of the series, which ran from 1999 to 2002 across four seasons.

Since then, Muriel appeared in multiple spin-offs and specials of the show, including the short film The Fog of Courage in 2014.

In his post, Zitzner wrote that White had been “looking forward to seeing” her latest project voicing the beloved character in Straight Outta Nowhere: Scooby Doo Meets Courage the Cowardly Dog, which is slated for release in September.
