"There's worse people in Skem than Martha": Residents react as 'Baby Reindeer star moves to Skelmersdale'

Social media has been buzzing with comments about 'Baby Reindeer's Martha moving to Skelmersdale', as Facebook users jested that 'there are worse people in Skelmersdale'. It comes after a profile imitating the hit Netflix's show's stalker claimed to have relocated to the Lancashire town.

Netflix's Baby Reindeer, which is loosely based on the real-life experiences of actor and comedian Richard Gadd, has garnered high praise and sparked widespread speculation about the identity of one of its main characters.

In the series, Gadd portrays himself under the character name Donny Dunn. The plot centres around Donny becoming the target of a stalker named Martha. Their paths cross when Donny offers Martha a complimentary cup of tea at the London pub where he works, setting the stage for the drama that unfolds.

Donny's simple act of kindness spirals into Martha developing an unhealthy obsession with him. She goes to extreme lengths such as befriending his ex-girlfriend's mother, spending hours waiting at a bus stop outside his house, and bombarding him with thousands of texts and emails, reports Lancs Live.

Initially, struggling comedian Dunn unintentionally encourages Martha's fixation but soon realises his mistake when she persistently tries to disrupt his budding relationship with a transgender woman named Teri. Despite his efforts to report Martha to the police, his pleas are ignored, leading him to take drastic measures to put an end to her twisted obsession.

Despite Gadd's assurances that the show doesn't provide enough details for anyone to identify the real Martha or the theatrical producer who sexually abuses him, social media is rife with conjecture and theories.

A recent Facebook post has now had people speculating as a woman announced her plans to start anew in Skelmersdale, complete with a photo labelled 'Martha'.

The post read: "Hi guys, I am new to Skem, I had to move from London due to domestic issues. My name is Martha and I am looking to make new friends in the Skelmersdale area." She listed her interests: "My hobbies include meeting new people, reading, texting, emailing and sitting in bus shelters."

While many spotted that the image was actually a still of the character Martha, portrayed by Jennifer Gunning in Baby Reindeer, not everyone was in on the gag. One commenter responded: "Good luck on your journey." Another joked: "There's worse people in Skem than Martha."
