Blackburn College welcomed local businesses to celebrate the achievements of its talented apprentices in an award ceremony this week.

Apprentices from Blackburn College came together at the college’s 2024 Apprentice Awards, held in their new Industry Collaboration Zone.

The evening awarded best-in-subject from courses covering Construction, Education, Human Resources, Marketing, Beauty, and Housing, as well as the Principals’ Awards.

Phoebe Willis, winner of the Digital Marketing Apprentice of the Year and the Principal’s Apprentice of the Year Awards, said: "The best thing about my apprenticeship was being able to experience actual working and learning.

"It’s had a really beneficial outcome and I’m glad I did it.

"The three words I’d use to describe my apprenticeship at Blackburn College are creative, hands-on, and inspiring."

The apprentices were praised for their hard work and dedication throughout the year, as well as the impact they have had on the businesses they were working with, including EG Group, Asda, Lesar, Places for People, Brookhouse Aerospace, and Blackburn with Darwen Council.

Part of the evening included a Q&A segment with business professionals, including managing director of Nybble Group Ram Gupta, and Spencer Harrison, head of learning development for the EG Group.

Both talked about the power of apprentices, the value and skills they bring, and how beneficial they are to the local area and businesses.

Uzma Danbahira, winner of the Early Years and Education Apprentice of the Year and the Principal’s Apprentice of the Year Awards, said: "My apprenticeship gave me lots of different skills and you get to meet people.

"I wanted to start working in the industry whilst I was learning and working towards my qualification.

"The three words I’d use to describe my Apprenticeship at Blackburn College are supportive, caring and enjoyable."

Nicola Clayton, director of business development and external engagement at Blackburn College, said: “A huge thank you to the businesses who have supported and mentored our apprentices along their journey.

"Each apprentice has shown a great professionalism and dedication to both learning and their employment, they are an asset to both the college and the business they work with.

"We can’t wait to see many more successes and bright futures ahead.”
