They’re going to need a bigger boat! Fishermen just hooked this 1.3 TONNE great white shark

This is the alarming sight that greeted fishermen who were out on the waters of South Carolina last week.

The crew, who were on a boat off Hilton Head Island, reeled in a monster great white shark that weighed approximately 1.3 TONNES.

Thankfully, the enormous man-eater didn’t jump on board the boat and eat everyone like his movie cousin – he was instead tagged for research purposes and let go again.

Outcast Sport Fishing posted a photo of the shark before releasing it – and it turns out it wasn’t even the biggest one they saw that day.

They wrote on Facebook: At noon we hooked into the largest White I’ve seen out there, over 3k lbs, but she spit the hook right when we started to turn the boat around to give chase.

“I almost called it a day and headed in, but we reset and hooked into this little guy. First male white shark I’ve caught.

“We put an acoustic tag on him and sent him on his way.”

Speaking about the larger of the two sharks, Charter boat Captain Chip Michalove, told The Island Packet: “It happened so fast. We were talking about what to do with her and all the sudden she ripped out 400 yards of line.

“She was so big I don’t think she even knew she was hooked.”

Data from shark tracking group OCEARCH showed that the South Carolina coast has seen a spate of great whites recently – the largest being 16ft and weighing a staggering 3,500lbs.
