Thick Sheets of 'Pancake Ice' Float Along Chicago Lakeshore

Thick sheets of ‘pancake ice’ were spotted floating along the Lake Michigan shoreline on January 10, shortly after sub-zero temperatures hit the Windy City over the weekend.

There was a “slight warmup” in Chicago on January 11, the National Weather Service (NWS) said, as temperatures reached into the 30s; snow is possible later in the week, the NWS said.
