Hop over to Adam Handling's new Frog

Covent Garden might not have a great reputation for restaurants but, alongside Victor Garvey’s Sibarita, Adam Handling’s recently opened Frog on Southampton Street is set to turn things around. It’s the second amphibian outpost from the acclaimed Scottish chef and it’s serving up British tapas prepared with Asian cooking techniques in mind. Try the signature Beetroot, Beetroot and More Beetroot, and order a G N’ T made with their very own Frog Gin, too.

From now, 35 Southampton St, WC2E 7HG, thefrogrestaurant.com

Be inspired at the London Design Festival

The London Design Festival is already in full swing, and will be till Sunday. In total, there are 400 events, free installations and exhibitions brightening up the capital, but tonight promises to be especially good, with designjunction returning to King's Cross for the seventh year. We’ll also be heading along to beautiful Mayfair restaurant Sketch, who are combining a new art exhibition with a Design Week-themed cocktail list.

Until Sunday, Across London, londondesignfestival.com

Dress up for the Carnaby Fashion Festival

Given the area has long been known for its sense of style, it’s a little surprising that today marks the first ever Carnaby Fashion Festival, which is on until Sunday. Channel your inner Vivienne Westwood and head over for four days of fashion and beauty workshops, talks, events and offers. Those out and about on the Strand for London Fashion Week should look for the Carnaby Taxi, too, which is offering free lifts to the festival.

Until Sunday, across Carnaby, carnaby.co.uk

Good wine – and pay what you like

If you find yourself in Soho tonight – and why wouldn’t you, it’s Friday? – make your way to the Soho Collective on Moor Street, where Vinery London are hosting another of their unsurprisingly popular honesty wine bars. Head over, rent a wine glass – yup, even glasses are for rent these days – and then pay what you like at the end of the night, depending on what you thought it was all worth. I believe this is called ‘living the dream’.

Friday, Soho Collective, 12 Moor Street, W1D 5NG, eventbrite.co.uk

Dress up in denim and dance to B*Witched

The Grand in Clapham are going all in to support Jeans4Genes day with a ‘double denim’ night, ideal for those couples whose hashtag goals are Justin and Britney at the 2001 AMAs. Besides DJs spinning the best of the 90s and the noughties, and plenty of punny cocktails – think jean and tonics – there’ll also be a live performance from none other than everyone’s favourite 90s girlband, B*Witched. C’Est La Vie.

Friday, The Grand, 21 - 25 Saint John's Hill, SW11 1TT, designmynight.com

Ryan Adams in grand surroundings

If B*Witched aren’t really your bag, grab a last minute ticket for Ryan Adams at the Royal Albert Hall. The Come Pick Me Up singer showed a gutsy return to form this year with his latest album, Prisoner, which followed his divorce from actress Mandy Moore. Adams is still sober, so expect him to deliver a blistering set and, if you chant loud enough, you might even get a cut from his cover of Taylor Swift’s 1989, too.

Friday, Royal Albert Hall, Kensington Gore, SW7 2AP, royalalberthall.com

Try the world's only 'mindful triathlon'

Mindfulness might be one of 2017’s vaguest trends, but it’s also more popular than ever and East London’s Victoria Park is hosting ‘mindful triathlon’ Wanderlust 108. Things start with a 5km run, followed by yoga and meditation. There’ll also be plenty of food and drink, as well as handmade clothes and jewellery

Saturday, Victoria Park, E3 5TB, wanderlust.com

Drink up at Goose Island Block Party

Chicago brewers Goose Island are temporarily migrating to Shoreditch’s Red Island today for their very own Block Party. It’s the second year they’ve run this frothy get-together, which alongside plenty of pints offers street food from the likes of Engine Hotdogs, vegan junk food peddlers Biffs Jack Shack and waffle worshippers Waffle On. There’ll also be games, DJs and music from Ealing’s very own White Lies.

Saturday, Red Market, 288 Old Street, EC1V 9LA, eventbrite.co.uk

Find your new favourite gig venue

If watching music from a boring old club, concert hall or festival field just isn’t cutting it, head to Tower Bridge where deep in their cavernous Bascule Chambers, which are usually strictly off-limits for the public, composer Iain Chambers is hosting a series of concerts alongside spoken word performances and what they’re billing as ‘an immersive sound walk’. It’s part of the Totally Thames festival and features, appropriately enough, a new composition inspired by Handel's Water Music.

Until Sunday, Tower Bridge, towerbridge.org.uk

Cheer on the NFL

The NFL is once again back in town. The Jacksonville Jaguars are returning for the fifth year to take on London newbies the Baltimore Ravens at Wembley Stadium. These two teams have a fierce rivalry, with all of their recent clashes decided by a single score, so a good game is on the cards. And hey, even if you’re just going for the hotdogs and the whooping and unflappable American optimism, it’ll be a laugh.

Sunday, Wembley Stadium, wembleystadium.com

Indulge in an aperitivo hour... or two

Chelsea’s Ritorno are launching Dolce Domenica – an aperitivo hour – with a suitably Italian party this Sunday afternoon running from 4pm until 9pm. Head over for cocktails, nibbles and bask in the almighty Sunday-ness of it all.

Sunday, Ritorno 442 King's Rd, SW10 0LQ, ritorno.co.uk

Maypole dance in the name of London history

Guildhall Yard are hosting a free festival to celebrate the London’s beloved Pearly Kings and Queens. It’s the Pearlies Harvest Festival, which means they’ll be celebrating with marching bands, maypoles and, er, Morris dancing. You can’t win ‘em all. Things kicks off from 1pm, before moving on to St Mary Le Bow Church. Take the chance to look into old-world London and have a laugh.
