"The day after it happened, I did tell one friend that Mr Polanski had done that to me," the woman, identified as Robin, said in a statement on Tuesday.

"The reason, with this exception, that I kept it to myself is that I didn't want my father to do something that might cause him to go to prison for the rest of his life."

The alleged victim’s lawyer remained tight-lipped about the details of case, but said that it had occurred in southern California.

The director of "Rosemary's Baby" and "Chinatown" was previously accused of drugging Mrs Geimer when she was 13 before raping her at Jack Nicholson's house in Los Angeles in 1977 while the film star was away.

Robin on Tuesday said that she was "infuriated" that Mrs Geimer had forgiven Mr Polanksi and asked in June for the case to be closed.

"I'm speaking out now so that Samantha and the world will know that she is not the only minor Roman Polanski victimized," the alleged victim said.

"I'm not over it and I certainly believe that Roman Polanski should be held accountable for his criminal conduct with Samantha Geimer."

Mr Polanski admitted statutory rape after a number of more serious charges were dropped in the Geimer case, and spent 48 days in custody to undergo psychiatric evaluation before being released.

Mr Polanski's case has been a cause celebre since then, and he fled the United States, fearing a plea bargain with prosecutors would be overruled and that he would get a lengthy prison term.

Mr Polanski was arrested on US warrants in both Poland and Switzerland during the past decade but both countries ultimately declined to extradite him.
