'This Morning' criticised for 'disrespectful' Royal mourners interview

This Morning has been criticised for some of its recent coverage of the Queen's death.

A recent segment of the show saw presenter Alice Beer interviewing mourners queuing along Embankment to see the Queen lying in state before her burial.

Beer asked the mourners questions before proposing to bring them "a little joy" in the form of biscuits.

She then joked to the camera, saying: "I'm about to become the most popular person in the queue I suspect."

Beer proceeded to shout "Doughnuts anybody?" as several mourners helped themselves to a sweet treat.

The presenter added: "We can pay our respects and eat doughnuts at the same time."

At one point during the broadcast, Beer spoke to a child and compared the event to a music festival, saying: "Are you tired? Mind you, it’s a bit like Reading Festival, you’ll be doing that next, it’s just a dress rehearsal isn’t it?"

Beer was criticised for her approach on social media with one viewer writing on Twitter: "Can't believe reporters are at the Buckingham Palace queues laughing, smiling and shouting about donuts as if it were a carnival. Show some respect!!!"

Another audience member said: "Alice Beer have a bit of respect! Guffawing and whooping talking to the people queuing to pay respects to the late queen."

One viewer retorted: "Does Alice realise it’s the actual queen these people are queuing for and not queen the band?"

Beer is best known for presenting Watchdog between 1993 and 1999 and has been This Morning's consumer expert since 2014.

She has also presented programmes such as Healthcheck, Face Value and Real Rakeovers. As well as being a TV presenter, Beer is also a qualified teacher.

This Morning airs on weekdays at 10am.
