Thomas Markle says next time he expects daughter Meghan to see him is when he is 'lowered into the ground'

The Duchess of Sussex’s father Thomas Markle has revealed he does not believe he will see his daughter ever again.

Mr Markle said he thinks Meghan and Prince Harry are “not thrilled” with him and would not want to talk to him.

His latest remarks surfaced after Prince Harry rejoined his wife in Canada to begin their new life amid a bid to step back as “senior” royals.

“The last time they might see me is being lowered into the ground," Mr Markle said in a Channel 5 documentary, which airs on Wednesday night.

In clip from the programme, 'Thomas Markle: My Story,' he added: “'I don't think at this point they're thrilled to see me or want to talk to me.”

He also said Harry and Meghan are turning the royal family "into a Walmart with a crown on it" over their decision to break away from the monarchy.

In part of an interview released a day after Buckingham Palace issued a statement on Harry and Meghan's future, Mr Markle said the couple were "cheapening" the institution.

The monarchy was thrown into turmoil earlier this month when Harry and Meghan announced they wanted to reduce their official duties and spend more time in North America.

Mr Markle, who is estranged from his daughter, told Channel 5 news that he believed Meghan was tossing away "every girl's dream".

"It's disappointing because she actually got every girl's dream," he said.

"Every young girl wants to become a princess and she got that and now she's tossing that away, for, it looks like she's tossing that away for money."

He added: "Apparently 3 million dollars (£2.3 million) and a 26-bedroom home isn't enough for them. It's kind of embarrassing to me."

The interview, which will be aired fully in the "coming weeks", was filmed after the couple's announcement that they would step back as senior royals.

Mr Markle said he did not expect Meghan to get in contact.

"I can't see her reaching out to me, especially now ... or Harry for that matter, but I think both of them are turning into lost souls at this point," he said.

"I don't know what they're looking for. I don't think they know what they are looking for."
