'Thousand Tons' of Rock Falls From Cliff Onto Beach in Dorset

A thousand tons of rock fell onto a beach in West Bay, Dorset, in England, when part of a cliff collapsed on March 13, resulting in the area being sealed off to the public due to safety concerns.

This footage, posted by the UK’s Environmental Agency, shows the collapse, which they said amounted to 1,000 tons of rock. A couple are seen walking a few hundred feet away at the moment the rock came thundering down; however, nobody was injured in the incident.

Somerset Live reported that the cliffs had been deemed unsafe in the aftermath of the fall, and the beach closed.

A West Bay Coastguard spokesman described the collapse as being “part of [a] process of natural erosion,” the BBC reported. Credit: Environment Agency via Storyful
