Thousands attend 'last of its kind' Devon car meet with vehicles queuing for miles

A colossal car meet in Devon, dubbed 'One Last Ride', saw thousands of attendees and vehicles queuing for "miles" along the A38 to gain entry. The event, held at Marsh Mills Retail Park in Plymouth, was promoted as the city's final "cruise" and attracted car enthusiasts from as far afield as London.

Organisers estimate that over a thousand cars turned up, with thousands of people enjoying the strictly regulated event. They reported vehicles queuing for up to two miles, stretching back to the A38.

Jonathan Lo, who organised the event alongside Jay Peters and Charlotte Adams, expressed his amazement at the turnout. He told PlymouthLive: "Like wow. What a turnout. We had cars starting to arrive from 6:30pm when the event wasn't supposed to officially start until 7pm."

He revealed that the retail park's car parks were nearly full before the official start time, leading them to direct attendees to park elsewhere. He added: "The A38 had at least two miles of queue with cars waiting to enter the retail park."

The event organiser praised the dedication of volunteer marshals, including Ken Ostrow, Dan Cork, Aaron Kirby, Conner Halloway, Dan Parkins, Daniel Hexham and Hannah Read, for their efforts in managing traffic safely. He also highlighted the crucial support from Devon and Cornwall Police: "Without them it wouldn't have been a night to remember.", reports Plymouth Live.

He remarked: "Everyone had a chance to park up and enjoyed the event. There were many mixtures of cars from classics to track race cars, from imports to American cars."

"People had come from as far as Essex, Cardiff, Cornwall, London and Torquay. This was truly a Plymouth takeover of old school car meets, and we've had nothing but great feedback from the public and those who attended the show. There were over a thousand cars and multiple thousands of people and families attending this meet."

Social media buzzed with positive reactions. James Bromfield, who came with his customised van, commented: "Absolute awesome night. Well done to everyone that made it happen."

Cameron Howard-Nixson, who showed up with his Mazda MX-5, expressed: "Huge turn out. Definitely the biggest meet I've been to."

Ellea Robinson, arriving in her silver Volkswagen Beetle, shared: "Big thanks to the organisers, marshals and police for making an absolutely huge Marsh Mills meet the best one yet."

The event coordinators stated their intention to "bring back the old skool cruising scene for one last time". On social media, the organisers questioned: "Did you ever just enjoy where it's just one BIG meet and just showing off your pride?"
