Thousands of Nigerians Protest Against Police Brutality in Lagos

Thousands of people took to the streets of Lagos, Nigeria, overnight on October 16-17, to protest against police brutality.

The rally marked more than a week of protests across the country against the Special Anti Robbery Squad, known as SARS, which is accused of human rights abuses. Amnesty International earlier this week said at least 10 people had been killed by police since the protests began.

Nigeria’s government has announced the dissolution of SARS, and the Presidential Panel on Reform of SARS reportedly recommended 37 police officers for dismissal and 24 for prosecution. Credit: @futuristicworks via Storyful
