Thousands Of Dead Fish Have Washed Up In Chile And No One Knows Why

Thousands of dead fish have washed up on along a river in Chile and it’s a total mystery.

Tonnes of sardines have been found along the shores of the Queule River in the south of the country.

Scientists admit they do not know why so many dead sardines have floated to the surface along the river.

Footage from the river shows tonnes of dead fish more than a foot deep clogging up the water and a huge removal operation is underway.

Health workers have been putting the sardines in baskets and loading them on to boats with a crane.

The leader of Queule Cove fishermen, Hernan Machuca, said: “Experience tells us that if we have already collected a thousand tonnes, at least here in the river there are ten thousand more.

“And that entails a lot of hours working. It means it can’t be possible they hired 50 people to solve this problem. It can’t be there are four to five boats.

“The government here has to declare the inlet of Queule and its surroundings a health catastrophe zone.”
