Thousands has been raised for the family of Corbin Jones who died after collapsing during a game of football with friends.

Corbin, 14, from Larkhall, tragically died on Saturday, May 11, after he collapsed while playing football with his friends on the grounds of Larkhall Academy.

Emergency services were called out to the scene at 7.25pm and the 14-year-old was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where he was sadly pronounced dead shortly after.

Tributes have since poured in for the young boy who has been described as "happy, cheerful and polite".

A GoFundMe has been launched by a family friend in a bid to raise enough money to give Corbin the 'send off he deserves'. Since launching just two days ago, the fundraiser has gathered over £12,100, with over 700 people contributing to the page.

One parent on social media said Corbin's friends did all they could to help him. She wrote: "The most heartbreaking news. On Saturday night (name redacted) and his friends were out playing football and Corbin took unwell and sadly passed away. I can’t begin to imagine the pain his family are going through right now, as are my son and his friends who did all they could to help.

"If anyone could donate to give him the send off he deserves every little helps, rest easy beautiful boy."

Andy Smith, Larkhall Academy head teacher, said: "Our school community is shocked by the tragic death of Corbin Jones on Saturday, 11 May. Corbin was a very popular pupil, with a wide friendship group across his own, and other, year groups. He was equally popular with staff due to his kind and caring nature, and his enthusiasm for life.

"In classes, he was happy, cheerful and polite, always with a smile on his face and always ready to learn and to contribute to lessons with a keen sense of fun and good humour. A talented guitarist, he loved spending time in the Music department.

A note issued to the GoFundMe page reads: "I am raising funds for my friend and neighbour who suddenly lost her young son on Saturday whilst he was out playing football with his friends. The funds will go to help give Corbin the send off he deserves x".
