Thousands of Snow Geese Descend on Pennsylvania Lake

An enormous gaggle of snow geese was seen making a pit stop during their migration at a lake in Middle Creek, Pennsylvania, on March 8.

Philadelphia resident Sarah Lada filmed the flock of nearly 100,000 geese as they flew above a lake in the Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area.

Snow geese generally migrate inland when journeying north toward the Arctic and sub-Arctic regions of North America, where they breed in the springtime, but patterns can change from year to year, according to the Pennsylvania Game Commission’s Migration Magic.

The weekend of March 6 to 7 saw the most human visitors to the Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area ever, park officials said. The Pennsylvania Game Commission is encouraging birders to visit in the early mornings to avoid overcrowding. Credit: Sarah Lada via Storyful
