Three UFO sightings in Dumfries and Galloway have been recorded and officially documented over the past three years.

Some eagle-eyed residents have shared their close encounters with mysterious flying objects in the sky.

The first was a “circular UFO” spotted in the skies above the Solway Coast on February 6, 2021.

Witnesses described it as “a round-shaped aircraft, quite flat and dark coloured with lights at the back.”

It was moving “very slowly” and must have been closer than most UFO experiences – as they even commented that it was around 12ft wide.

On December 11, 2022, witnesses in Dumfries reported seeing a “star-like UFO”, and described it as “a bright light, changing colour as it was pulsating”.

They were gobsmacked as the flying object was moving slightly left and right, and then up and down.

Around 11 months later, on October 21, 2023, another UFO was reportedly spotted from Galloway Park.

The witness report states: “Three orbs appeared and seemed to be playing in an X formation, circling each other and shooting off and coming back.”

These sightings have been compiled by research group UFO Identified, which has documented 1,789 sightings of unexplained objects in the skies above the UK since 2020.

That includes 395 sightings last year alone.

Information was taken from social media, newspaper reports, and Freedom of Information requests, as well as from reports made directly to UFO spotter groups around the UK.

The group’s research shows that people living in the South East of England have the best chance of seeing a UFO, with 233 documented sightings since 2020, followed by the North West (218) and the South West (193).

However, there have also been other sightings closer to Dumfries and Galloway as two were also recorded in Carlisle.

The first was an orb-shaped UFO spotted on January 7, 2021, which “changed colours when looking at it through camera”.

The other UFO was spotted by a shocked motorist on October 25, 2023.

The driver, who was on the M6 towards the Scotland border, said they saw “an object made up of bright lit-up white blocks hovering in one place, not moving”.

For those with an interest in searching for extra-terrestrial life, Friday, April 26 was celebrated as another annual Alien Day.

This is held to mark Ridley Scott’s hugely successful film Alien which was released 45 years ago.

Alien Day was first held by fans of the film series in 2015 in New York and it has since become a global event. The first film in the cult sci-fi horror franchise starring Sigourney Weaver as the iconic Ripley, came out in 1979.
