Thunderstorms and heavy rain on the way as Ayrshire region warned of risk of localised flooding
The Met Office has today issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms for the Ayrshire region.
Thunderstorms and heavy downpours “may cause flooding and travel disruption,” according to meteorologists.
The warning has been put in place from 1pm until 9pm this evening and members of the public are being advised to stay alert.
In addition to the yellow warning for thunderstorms and heavy downpours, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) has also issued a flood warning for the Ayrshire region.
SEPA said there is a risk of ‘localised flooding.’
A spokesperson said: “This alert is for potential flooding from surface water. Isolated heavy showers on Monday afternoon will give a risk of localised flooding in some areas.
“Most areas will be unaffected, but in the areas of the most intense rainfall there could be significant disruption to travel and some property flooding particularly in urban areas.”
Advice and information is also available through Floodline on 0345 9881188.
