TikTok polarized over new Starbucks Oleato line: 'I really cant get behind this'

Starbucks has a new line of olive-oil-infused coffee products, and customers are very divided on if the drinks are delicious — or completely disgusting.

The line is called Starbucks Oleato and is described as “coffee meets olive oil” and an “experience like no other…your coffee ritual uplifted.”

And while Starbucks Oleato has been met with mixed reactions, including some customers reporting it gave them terrible bouts of stomach issues, TikToker and beauty influencer Nova (@nextdoornova) has gone public as a fan.

She explained that she asked for a sample of the Oleato drink, and she wound up getting a whole cold drink for free — and she loved it.

“It looks weird but it’s actually SO good wtf,” she captioned a recent TikTok.

What are the new Starbucks Oleato drinks?

There are three main Starbucks Oleato drinks you can try, including:

  • The Golden Foam cold brew has “lush Partanna extra virgin olive oil infused cold foam” and is said to create a “subtle sweetness.”

  • An iced, shaken espresso “offers layers of flavor sweetened with notes of hazelnut, rich espresso and creamy oat milk infused with Partanna extra virgin olive oil.”

  • A caffè latte made of Starbucks Blonde Espresso Roast is “ infused with Partanna extra virgin olive oil and steamed with creamy oat milk, creating a velvety smooth, deliciously lush latte.”

The olive oil coffee line is the brainchild of Starbucks C.E.O. Howard Schultz. The drink was inspired by his trips to Sicily, where he learned the local custom of taking a teaspoon of olive oil every day.

He loved it so much that he wondered what would happen if he combined olive oil and his other love, coffee.

Where can you order the Starbucks olive oil drinks?

Starbucks Oleato beverages debuted in Italy in February of 2023. They are available in eight different countries, including Italy, the U.S., Japan, France and the U.K.

You can order Oleato drinks in 15 states in the U.S.:

  • Alaska

  • Arkansas

  • California

  • Connecticut

  • Florida

  • Illinois

  • Massachusetts

  • Maine

  • New Hampshire

  • New Mexico

  • New York

  • Rhode Island

  • Texas

  • Vermont

  • Washington

Here are some reactions to the drinks.

Despite the dreamy backstory, not everyone loves the Oleato line as much as Schultz.

And Nova’s comment section was as divided as the rest of the country on the olive oil drinks.

Some were a definite no on the olive oil-coffee combo:

“Ya’ll drinking straight oil is insane,” commented @mrsrager3.

“I really just cant get behind this,” admitted @francesrae.

But others were fans alongside Nova.

“I tried it but I told them to add it in the cold foam it was so good,” said @xalinnaaa.

While there was a lot of criticism and hesitation, other commenters pointed out that taste aside, the Oleato line could have some major benefits.

“Drinking olive oil is really healthy for you when it’s high quality, idk about Starbucks olive oil but it has good benefits,” noted @rue_jean.

“Once my bby was constipated and my grandma gave him a tablespoon of olive oil and that work I can only image this combo if the coffee alone is enough,” pointed out @lolasworld_10.
