Tilly Ramsay and Nikita Kuzmin topped the Strictly Come Dancing Musical Week leaderboard with a perfect score of 40 points.

The pair danced their couple’s choice to Revolting Children from Matilda on Saturday.

The TV presenter, 20, and her professional partner, 23, were met with a standing ovation following their energetic routine.

Last week the pair faced elimination but were saved unanimously by the judges over Dragons’ Den businesswoman Sara Davies and her partner Aljaz Skorjanec.

Guest judge Cynthia Erivo - who stepped in to guest judge - said their dance was “awesome”. Motsi Mabuse said the duo were a “force to be reckoned with.”

Head judge Shirley Ballas said: “Absolutely first class, how you’ve come back from being in the bottom to performing like this. To be honest, I never say this, but I couldn’t tell who the professional was – that’s how good you were.”

Ramsay, who is the daughter of celebrity chef Gordon, dedicated the dance to her family for always supporting her.

Comedian and writer Tim Minchin, who wrote the music and lyrics for the musical Matilda, also sent the pair a message, saying: “Congratulations Matilda Ramsey on your excellent choice of song.

“I think your dancing was revolting, and I’d like to wish you all the best for the rest of the competition. Congratulations guys.”

Elsewhere, AJ Odudu and Kai Widdrington opened the show with a romantic waltz and even teased a kiss on stage.

The couple, who have been subject to romance rumours, danced to Edelweiss from the film the Sound Of Music.

At the bottom of the leaderboard was Tom Fletcher - who with Amy Dowden danced couple’s choice to On My Own from Les Misérables - and Dan Walker - who danced the Charleston with to Singin’ in the Rain with partner, Nadiya Bychkova.

Erivo took her seat on the judging panel to replace Craig Revel Horwood after he tested positive for Covid-19.

The Oscar nominee and Broadway star was welcomed onto the show with a collage of her career highlights.

The show’s co-host Claudia Winkleman said: “Craig is not with us tonight, he’s tested positive for Covid-19 but he’ll hopefully be back next week. We will miss you so much, Craig.

Fellow host Tess Daly added: “Keeping Craig’s seat warm this weekend is a star of stage and screen who has Tony, Emmy and Grammy awards to her name.”

The actress will assist in judging the dancers on their musical performances alongside Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke, and Shirley Ballas.

Erivo is well equipped for the role as an acclaimed theatre star who has appeared in Broadway’s revival of The Colour Purple, the Sister Act UK Tour and The Umbrellas Of Cherbourg.
