Tim Farron Speaks Ahead of Anti-Brexit March in London

Liberal Democrats leader Tim Farron rallied anti-Brexit protesters ahead of a Unite for Europe march on parliament in London on March 25.

He compared Theresa May’s expected March 29 invocation of Article 50, which would trigger the process to leave the European Union (EU), to “jumping out of an airplane without a parachute.” He also noted that, if Brexit goes ahead, the United Kingdom would leave the EU on April 1, also known as April Fools’ Day, in 2019, drawing laughs from the crowd.

The march coincided with the 60th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome, which established the European Economic Community. Its organisers said they were seeking protections for EU citizens living in the UK, and wanted the country to remain in the single market. Credit: Liberal Democrats Press Office via Storyful
