Timelapse Shows Dark Clouds Pass Over Hong Kong as Tropical Cyclone Approaches

Dark clouds moved over Hong Kong on the morning of Wednesday, July 31, as Tropical Cyclone Wipha approached the coast, as seen in this timelapse footage from the area of Sha Tin.

The Hong Kong Observatory, the government’s meteorological agency, released the city’s first Number 8 typhoon signal of the year, prompting all school classes and ferry services to be suspended. It warned people to stay away from the shoreline and for residents to lock all windows and doors and to insert reinforced shutters and gates if possible.

Hundreds of people braved the weather on Wednesday morning to rally outside a court where 44 people were expected to be charged for taking part in previous protests, the Straits Times reported. Credit: Sweet Apple Food via Storyful
