Tina Turner comes out of retirement to launch new West End musical

Tina Turner is stepping out of retirement after seven years to launch a new musical about her rock ‘n’ roll life.

The 77-year-old took to the stage in London to unveil the new production, called Tina, and admitted that even though she loves retirement, it was her fans that brought her back into the spotlight.

‘I am very excited to be a part of this. This took me out of retirement,’ she said during a press event at London’s The Hospital Club.

‘Retirement is wonderful, it’s easy to sleep long. Do what you want, decorate the house two of three times. Easy things that you dreamed about when you were working.’

She added: ‘I get cards and letters. People say I gave them hope. It means so much to people.

‘I have to pass it on. I really want it to be a success . I hope it will travel the world and serve what the people need, from me as a reminder of my work.’

Broadway actress Adrienne Warren will portray Tina in the musical, which opens next March at London’s Aldwych Theatre, and explained why the music icon agreed to be involved.

‘There are secrets she hasn’t told yet. She [Tina] has more to tell her fans about her story, and that’s why we’re doing this,’ Adrienne told Metro.co.uk.

Tina: The Tina Turner Musical will largely be biographical, telling the story of Tina’s life, rather than focusing on fictional elements.
