Tipping Point viewers not impressed by teacher's Anne Frank answer
Tipping Point viewers were shocked at a teacher's unfortunate Anne Frank answer on a recent episode.
In yesterday's instalment (October 22), the ITV show's host Ben Shephard asked contestant Steph a question about a fictional book character.
"In a classic novel by Johanna Spyri, what is the name of the orphan sent to live with her grandfather in the Swiss Alps?" asked the presenter.
Steph was reluctant to pass the question to her opponent Pete, assuming (correctly) that he would know the answer) so she thought she'd better have a guess... at Anne Frank.
Steph's answer left many viewers in dismay for suggesting that young diarist Anne Frank, who famously kept an account of her time during the Nazis' occupation of the Netherlands, could be a fictional character from a novel.
Now to be fair, the pressure of the recording can cause people to say things they wouldn't dream of saying when watching at home, but that didn't stop people on Twitter from tearing into the answer.

"A teacher thinks Anne Frank is a fictional character #tippingpoint .... I just despair," wrote someone.
"I actually am at a loss of words," added another viewer. "How can someone who's (sic) job is to teach children, not know about Anne Frank and think she is a fictional character in a book...?"

After the correct answer was revealed to be Heidi, Steph added of her Anne Frank guess: "I knew that was wrong, I couldn't think of anybody else."
