Tired of the same old Christmas tunes? Check out new holiday songs from The Killers and Major Lazer

One of the challenges when it comes to Christmas music is finding new tunes. There are only a finite number of traditional carols, hymns and songs, most of which are as overdone as a holiday turkey forgotten in the oven. So it’s always a treat to come upon creative new offerings. This week, two playful and slyly humorous tracks by The Killers and Major Lazer offer something completely different in the festive music category.

The Killers: "I'll Be Home for Christmas"

For the last decade, The Killers have released Christmas singles, including "Joel the Lump of Coal," "I Feel It In My Bones" and the excellent "Christmas in L.A.," which included a video starring actor Owen Wilson. Now the Las Vegas band has released a collection of all its seasonal offerings, including one new track: a rendition of Bing Crosby’s Yuletide nugget that features a duet between frontman Brandon Flowers and his fourth-grade teacher Ned Humphrey Hansen.

Never having released a full Christmas album before, The Killers couldn’t help but tweet their excitement.

Major Lazer: “Christmas Trees” feat. Protoje

Major Lazer, the electronic trio featuring deejay-producer Diplo, Jillionaire and Walshy Fire, has made a name for itself mixing reggae with dancehall, reggaeton, house and other dance styles. Just in time for the holidays, the trio has teamed up with Jamaican reggae artist Protoje for a supper-mellow take on the Christmas tradition. The song is featured on A Very Decent Christmas compilation series.

Major Lazer took to Instagram to post a lyric video of its holiday single, with its message of good (herbal) cheer.
